- There is no doubt that the oilskin gear Regatta Fisherman saved my life” the 27 years old Stian Furøy says.

He had just received the Regatta Fisherman oilskin gear with built-in buoyancy a few days ahead of the accident, and used it for the first time the same evening as the boat accident happened! He and his colleague recently experienced the nightmare during a fishing trip outside the island of Sørvær in the county Finnmark; their boat turned around.
The two fishermen got fishing net into the propeller, and the engine stopped. A breaker filled immediately the fishing boat with water, the boat turned upside down, and both persons ended up in the sea. In spite of wave heights ofapprox. 2-3 meters, Stian Furøy experienced that he – due to the floating position provided by the oilskin gear- where floating high and vertical in the sea. He was therefore able to release both himself and his colleague from the fishing net which surrounded them. His colleague was wearing a regular suit which became very heavy in the water. He was in desperate need of the assistance of Stian Furøy in order to be kept floating.

No panic due to the feeling of security provided by Regatta Fisherman
I didn´t panic,Stian Furøy says - Due to the fact that I was floating that easily, and kept my body temperature that well. He managed to pick up his cell phone which was kept in the pocket with zipper on the gear, and managed on the second attempt to contact his brother. The brother contacted the rescue-boat “Ada Waage” which arrived on the location after only 15-20 minutes. The colleague was freezing dreadfully, and used very long time in order to recapture his body temperature.
Stian Furøy is an experienced fisherman, and has been through Safety traning for fishermen. He considers the oilskin gear with built-in buoyancy as a majour improvement of the safety at sea for fishermen.
- My experience is that Regatta Fisherman has proofed to be functional in practical use, Stian Furøy says.
